Expanding a current vCMP guest over more slots to improve CPU performance
Hi All,
We are using VIPRION chassis C2400, with 2100B blades on one chassis and 2250B blades on the other one. We use version 11.4 on the hypervisor (host) and version 11.5.1 for the guests.
At the moment we ran into CPU utilization issue. The current design used a vCMP guest on only one blade. AS per F5 VCMP docs suggest, we cannot add more CPU cores to the guest without re-provisioning the system. This is not viable solution for us since it will impact a lot of customers. I found that the other thing we can do to add more CPU cores to the guest, is to expand the current guest over more available slots. F5 suggests that we can add more slots to a guest at any time, while it is processing traffic.
My question is: has anyone done this before? Does it impact the services? Could it cause any interruption, or performance degradation? We have LTM, AFM, and ASM modules running on this guest.
Thank you, Mondana
That is basically the same thing as inserting a new blade into a (physical) chassis. It has been done many times before and is a supported task. It should not cause system interruption or performance issues, but as with anything else when working with production systems there's always some risk of something unforeseen happening.

FYI: We have tested this. Worked well with no troubles.
