Sep 23, 2011How to reset only the bigip.conf to factory default settings
Hi there
I have a LTM pair with an old configuration and these devices don't have a searial console connection.
I did a fresh install on this 10.x TMOS based boxes:
image2disk --format=volumes BIGIP-10.2.1.297.0.iso
After this installation process the configuration is copied from the previous installation to the new one. So far so good. The license is copied as well and all the box related configuration.
So now, I just want remove the bigip.conf configuration only (resetting it to factory default settings). I there a elegant way to do it? I mean does a single command exist for such thing.
best regards
bb

- George_Watkins_Historic F5 AccountHi bigbrother,
You used to be able to run the 'sys-reset' command to wipe the conifguration, but things changed a bit with version 10.x. Here is the article on AskF5 with all the steps: http://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/solutions/public/10000/500/sol10519.html

Dear All,
Can anyone tell me how can I reset the factory default in version 10.x. My client purchase F5 Big-IP LTM where it has two software volume and it's IOS is 10.x and 11.x .But My query is that if we use image2disk utility from command prompt of 10.x then 11.x IOS of other volume would be removed or not . Because using image2disk command we are providing location for inactive volume where 11.x resides.
Looking forward to your reply soon.
Thanks and regards

But My query is that if we use image2disk utility from command prompt of 10.x then 11.x IOS of other volume would be removed or not . Because using image2disk command we are providing location for inactive volume where 11.x resides. yes, 11.x will be gone. anyway, why do not you install to another slot (e.g. HD1.3)?
by the way, is "b import default" applicable for you?

Hi,
Thanks for your valuable comments . I will check the command using < bigpipe import default> and let you know accordingly.
Can you tell me how we can configure redundancy between two Big-IP using serial port.Becuase if we do the redundancy using serial port then how the configuration would be sync between two appliance.
One more query is that If we deploy two Big -IP with redundancy then is it required to configure the internal and external vlan as in our topology Server default gateway is not big-ip and there is multiple VLANs in the switch for different Zone.
So should we have to use both npath routing and SNAT configuration in Big-IP ??
For your information , If we do multiple self IP and as well as multiple floating IP in version 10.x ,then which self ip would used for configuration synchronization.
I am eagerly waiting for your valuable comments and assistance.
Thanks and regards

Can you tell me how we can configure redundancy between two Big-IP using serial port.Becuase if we do the redundancy using serial port then how the configuration would be sync between two appliance.there are two different things. one is failover and the other one is configsync. failover can be done by either hardware (serial cable) or network. configsync needs network.

So should we have to use both npath routing and SNAT configuration in Big-IP ??there is no requirement in number of vlans. you just make sure bigip sees both requset and response traffic (e.g. using default gateway, snat) unless you are using npath.

So can you tell me how can we reset the that appliance to factory default. what you did is correct but not sure why unit 2 has an issue.
so, can you run "b load" and fix an error one by one? for example, if Business-VLAN is not found, just create it. after fixing all the error, run "b import default" and "b save all" again.
