Viprion Blade Preference

Hello everyone.

Is there a way to set a blade preference on a Viprion? I.e. we want the blade in slot1 to be active at all times unless it fails.

This is required as short term measure as we have no cabling in blade in slot 2 so if we need to we can reboot chassis and blade in slot 1 would be active again.

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Graham.

I'm not quite sure what you mean. Being active unless it fails is default behaviour for any blade. Reboot chassis basically means rebooting all blades in the device service cluster, which also means they will all come back online after reboot. If you want to reboot the blade in slot 2 only, you can do so by logging in to this blade directly and chosing "reboot blade" instead of "reboot chassis".

If you want to limit vCMP guests to a specific blade, you can do so by using the "allowed blades" property of the vCMP guest.

Graham, do you mean Primary? If so then I don't believe you can specify this. When you reboot there's a quorum process where a blade is selected as primary in a random way. You would need to pull out blade 2 to ensure blade 1 became primary (assuming only 2 blades).

In your situation traffic should still flow if blade 2 became primary as it'll use the backplane. Although you wouldn't be able to manage the viprion via the primary blade GUI. I think that's the behaviour.

    Hope this helps,
