IIS or F5 LTM HTTP/HTTPS compression

Good Evening,

I apologise for the simplistic question, however what is the best approach for performance, utilising IIS7 Dynamic/Static compression or is the F5 LTM compression for HTTP/HTTPS superior?

Any help and guidance would be most helpful?

The Web Servers are quad core/Dual socket under zero stress.

Regards,

Greg.

    Hi Greg,

I would suggest testing with both types of compression, and see what works best in your situation.

Assuming you're not using the LTM VE, the compression in our appliances uses a combination of hardware and software to give the best possible compression for your specified traffic. The compression in IIS is using software only.

If you need some further guidance, I'd also suggest having a look at our solutions database, at SOL 3393: http://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/solutions/public/3000/300/sol3393.html?sr=16708394.

Please let me know if you have further questions.

    Cheers,

    Helen
