replacing hardware on a dead BigIP 3600 and how it effects licensing
so we have a bad bigip 3600 unit and i am considering buying a used one from ebay that comes with no HDD (and therefore no software).
can i move my HDD into the new unit and retain my software license?
since i'm out of main contract at F5 (long ago) they reply to all emails with "Without a valid support contract, we are unable to assist you with your question at this time."
No, the license is tied to the serial number of the specific device so that won't work.

Time to brush up on your surface mount desoldering/soldering skills if you can figure out which chip (bios??) the serial number is stored on ;D

I don't even know if it is surface mount, but suspect it probably is. I'd love to see a pic of the board if you take it apart. If by some chance you do pursue this, a good shop with the right equipment for surface mount work should be able to do it for ~$100. At least the last time I had to get some surface mount work done, that is what it cost. Through hole I do myself. Hakko 808 FTW!
