Hi.
Detailed upgrade and installation instructions are always in the readme for the version youre installing. A simple upgrade is done either command line with install2disk or from the gui. The install goes to a new volume so you can boot, check the new version and if youre not happy, fallback by simply rebooting again to the old volume slot.
The hypervisor is just another copy of bigip. It should upgrade just like a guest or standalone bigip, But of course you need to make sure all your guests are running their groups in standby.

Oh. Reactivating he license is the same as any other license. Just follow the gui instructions from the license area. - Nathan_Houck_65

Hamish, does the Hypervisor instance need to be upgraded to new version of code before the Guests get upgraded? - nitass

i was able to upgrade guest without upgrading host. so, finally host and guest are running different version i.e. guest is newer.
i never upgraded host before but i think it could be fine. - kishore_chennup

HI Hamish and all,
Thanks for the reply. This is the first time I am upgrading VIPRIONS. I was wondering if you can guide me to a link whereby I can follow a step by step task to upgrade and downgrade etc. and some other impoertant things i need to note whilst upgrade
Appreciate your help on this

i do not think procedure is different between viprion and another platform.
first we have to check whether license re-activation is required i.e. license check date, service check date.

then uploading iso and using software managment screen or tmsh command to install.

Not necessarily. There is a matrix of supported hypervisor and guest versions. From somewhere around 11.2.0 on the hypervisor you can go to at least 11.3.0. To get the new functionality from 11.4.0, you'd need to go to 11.4.0 on the hypervisor (e.g vCMP guests with more CPU/Memory).H

On a live environmrnt, I'd make sure there were no active traffic groups or GTM dispatched VS's being used before doing the hypervisor...H
