IP DNS (GTM) Deployment in production environment.

We are building a DR site for the production site. We need to deploy one GTM on both sites. We are building DR site for selected APPLICATION not all of them.

What would be my best solution? 1. Should we replace DNS server with GTM for all traffic? 2. GTM works as DNS only for those applications for which we are building DR? 3. What would be the the impact on production considering GTM is configured and we need to move DNS requests from DNS servers to GTM, what would be the downtime required in ideal condition?

Your help will be greatly appreciated. I have deployed LTM but not GTM before.

I would suggest option 2, especially as the first step. Typically the TTL of DNS records will help you to mitigate the migration window of the DNS server to GTM.

  • Thank you kunjan for your valued answer. We have a huge amount of clients and we cannot change their 2ndary DNS entry.

What are my options so that i do not have to change anything on clients.

Is it possible that current DNS server forwards DNS request to GTM for those specific applications.

  • Hi Kunjan, The article you referred looks like the solution to my problem. Can you tell that creating sub-domain in DNS server will effect client traffic?

Creation of sub-domain will not effect clients right? they will be accessing service through there old URL?

How much downtime is required for this activity on DNS if i know exactly what to do?

If we shift traffic to secondary DNS and perform this activity on primary DNS and Vise versa, will require no downtime right?
