F5 Online (Active) /Online (Standby) Behavior Question
Hello,
Please excuse the newby question.
Our hosting provider has 2 F5 load balancers in Active/standby mode serving web traffic for our 3 web servers. I have noticed on the F5 web consoles that the same node on both instances shows current connections greater than zero? Is this expected behavior? We are trying to the bring nodes out for maintenance and to knock the connections down to zero we have to force the node offline on both f5 instances. We are using version 11.2.1
Thank you for you help,
David Williams

You should be able to find out what that one connection is doing from your backend app server.
And yes, it is normal to have connections open, depending on how the virtual server is configured.
Looks like you need to speak to the admin of those F5 devices, who should know how it all works.

Have the admins configured mirroring for the VS using those nodes?

Jie and Hamish,
Thank you for your responses! Hamish, could you point me to some documentation on mirroring. We are talking with our hosting provider and I would like to raise your question to them.
Thanks again,
David Wiliams

The LTM docs are the best place. In addition there's a couple of SOLN notes on tech.f5.com about connection mirroring. e.g.
