Does F5 DNS Supports Juniper Lightweight LB?
Can F5 DNS support Juniper Lightweight LB? Since our devops guy can only provide a VIP, does anyone know how to configure it on the F5 DNS?
Normally we add LTM as a server, then we create pool based on the LTM VIPs, finally we create WideIP and add the pool. But this Juniper Lightweight LB only has VIP to provide so I dont know how to configure this in F5 DNS.
Hello,
First, it is better to migrate the configuration to the same software version that the devices (old devices) are currently running. Second point, since you are migrating to a different platform, you should check the below article.
It is mentioned that you should run the load UCS command with the platform migrate option and no platform check along with no license check, because you should activate the licenses on the new boxes and not to used the old license from the old boxes.

by using the above options in the load ucs command, you will need to go through the network settings on the new appliances and assign the vlans on the new interfaces.
You cannot migrate with the same network interface settings, because each platform has a different scheme for interfaces.
One more important point, you will not be able to load the ucs file without rekeying the new appliance, you can get the master key from the old box, and add this key the new box.

Add it as a generic host server type and make the VIP to be same as the server IP address but just with a port and use not big ip monitor (so you configure generic host with ip 1.1.1.1 and add VIP with IP address 1.1.1.1 : 80 and another VIP with 1.1.1.1:443). Maybe tcp or tcp half open for the server and for example HTTP for the VIP virtual server. Be carefull which F5 device will send the probes so if you create a separate data center object for the Juniper and there is no F5 device in the same data center that has connectivity to the Juniper then better use prober pool and make certain which F5 device have network and security access to send the probes and tell the GTM/DNS that the Generic host is ok.

If the Juniper Lightweight LB has more than one VIP servers also with different IP addresses you can try the type "Generic Load Balancer" but it uses SNMP for the server monitor and I have never seen anyone use this type at all:

Thanks for that information Nikoolayy1, I'll go ahead and try that configuration.
