F5-BIG-VE-LAB
Hi
I just purchased the license for this and trying to find the best way to get it installed and configured for me to study with and lab stuff out. Can I use a work station or does it need to be on a VM/server? I saw that people can use Mac OSX only if running VM fusion which i don't have. Im running parallels. I also have an ESXi server. Would it be wise to just install on that?
Any help or documentation would be great.

i understand workstation and fusion are not officially supported but it could be usable.
Virtual Edition and Supported Hypervisors Matrix, version 1.4
Download and Install F5 BIG-IP v11.x / Virtual Edition 11.3.x into Vmware Workstation
anyway, i am using esx.

Hi, some versions might even work on Oracle VirtualBox, which is free. The breaking point would be possibility to re-activate license if you need to reinstall the box at some point. If Dev license assumes only one activation I would use supported hypervisor.

I believe it will work with Fusion, VMware Workstation and VirtualBox. I use it with Workstation myself but had to upgrade my laptop to 8Gb to get it to run normally. I'd recommend it on the ESXi server myself.

I use VM Fusion Pro 6.0.2 for my own personal lab on my Macbook Pro with 16 gig RAM and it runs quite hot (even F5 internal staff use this setup apparently!) however during one of my contracts I installed it on ESXi 5.1 server and it worked a treat.
I heard Virtualbox doesn't work from a colleague that tried it about a year ago but I have never tried it myself.
Hope this helps.
