Counting and limiting HTTPS sessions

The website I am writing an irule for runs both http and https. I am following this irule to count http requests sessions HHTP Session Limit to redirect if the session count is high. I have this working mostly.

 

Now I need to deal with SSL connections. How can I count SSL connections using an irule? I take it the httpp_request will not count https connections so wondering what the best way to do this is.

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
