Config Util problems uploading ISO/Hotfixes

Problem -

Uploading files in the config utility was throwing and error right at the 100% complete mark and not showing the file as available for install.

Work arounds -

- Rebooted the box, which worked for me one time.

- Identify the temp files in the /tmp dir, delete them, and try to upload again. Worked for me.

My narrative -

So while trying to get HF3 installed on some new equipment yesterday, I had multiple boxes fail right as they were at 100%. Talk about frustrating! As some are awaiting deployment I was able to reboot on of them without issue and got it to upload just fine. I figured it might have been an issue with me doing it from my MAC on wireless in a Chrome browser, so I launched a desktop in the datacenter, to rule out some of those issues. Still could not get it to upload, but now I was on the production node in the middle of a code/change freeze, so a failover in the middle of the day was not a welcome event.

The config util places the files in the /tmp directory on the system while it is attempting to upload the entire thing. I found these temp files that were 2/3rds the size of my HF there. I deleted them and began the upload process again and had no issues.

Hope this helps,

  • I have had problems - depending on the browser - uploading files. The release notes has a list of supported browsers - Chrome not among them. Firefox 3 is solid for uploading files. If all else fails, you can always scp them to /shared/images
  • There's a knowledge base article SOL10788 which I found because of having this problem while uploading ISOs to our F5 LTM 1600 systems (upgrading from 10.0.1 to 11.0.0). I had the same problem with the Version 11 HF 1 ISO files. I was eventually able to upload the ISO files successfully with Firefox 5 on the Mac.

Putting the ISO files in /shared/images with scp worked as far as completing the file transfers was concerned, but the files did not appear in the list of known images in the Configuration utility web console.

The problems in SOL10788 is identifiable as such because "the following error message is reported when the upload of the hotfix [or release] images reaches 99 percent: em.error.ErrorReadingISO".

I wouldn't have thought that browsers could be so different in this regard!
