Jan 07, 2013BIGIP LTM VE GUI Access
Hi
I ve installed LTM VE on VM Player. I'm trying to license via GUI but not able to do it.
I' m thinking we need to access via GUI from the VM player but am not able to login to VM player itself. All i'm able to do is just play the LTM VE from VM player.
Any guidance would be gr*8!
Thanks -gseek

Yes, the MAC address from O/P of ifconfig of eth0 and that shown from tmsh list net interfacce is same - 00:0C:29:1E:B4:E3
Yes, MGMT IP from both O/P is same - 192.168.1.245/24
No, i did not configured the MGMT IP, it was already there as default so i used the same.
Please guide hw do i configure the VM Player interfaces and my laptop NIC to enable comms between Laptop, LTM via VM.

OK. Well, as I said, in my installation on my laptop I have all the VMWare NICs configured as bridged (click the NIC icons on the bottom right and then Settings...).
If you want to try using DHCP enter this command: tmsh modify sys global-settings host-addr-mode management mgmt-dhcp enabled (you might need to restart too: shutdown -r now). However, just changing the management IP to something in the same network as your local PC/laptop might also do the trick.
Note I'm no VE expert so I'm happy to be corrected by someone with more experience =] - genseek_32178

i have assigned my laptop an ip in the MGMT IP range - 192.168.1.25/24..but still am not able to ping MGMT ip - 192.168.1.245 from my laptop. - What_Lies_Bene1

Is that interface actually up on your device? I'd suggest you do it the other way around, or try DHCP.
And how are the VMWare NICs configured please? - genseek_32178

MGMT interface is UP, yes.
On VM interfaces are configured as below,
Network Adapter 0 is configured in Bridged Mode
Network Adapter 2 is configured in Host Mode
Network Adapter 3 is configured in Host Mode - What_Lies_Bene1

Sorry, I meant is the NIC up on your PC/Laptop/Server?
Can you select the NIC in VMW Player that is in Bridged Mode and click Advanced and check the MAC address matches what you see listed for the mgmt interface using 'tmsh list net interface' - genseek_32178

No, the NIC on my laptop is showing unplugged ( X ) and therefore it is Down.
yes, the MAC address matches in Advanced section to what is seen under 'tmsh list net interface' - What_Lies_Bene1

OK, well I tested this on mine and if I disable my wireless NIC, I can't connect to the VM or ping it.
So, you need an up and active network connection and the mgmt IP for VE needs to be in the same subnet (as the physical host device network connection) if you are using Bridged mode. - genseek_32178

My laptop physical NIC has 192.168.2.30, but the NIC status is showing as crossed, X, i.e unplugged.
will also define MGMT IP on LTM VE as 192.168.2.50
Do you suggest that i configure all the 3 virtual NICs of VM player in Bridgemode and then check if laptop can ping LTM MGMT IP or no and vice-versa?

No, I'm suggesting you do whatever necessary to make your laptop NIC come up, that is the issue I believe.
