HA pair in VMware v7 update 3 - Should "power on connect" be enabled, or disabled for vlans/network?

Late last year we migrated the vcmp guests off of our 7200 chassis into VMware. Up until now, "Connect at power On" has been diabled for the vlans/networks. The question is whether that should be enabled. The question sent by the Server tech is below...

We have noticed that the F5 VMs networks are not checked for “Connect at power On”, should this be the case in our HA F5?

We ask this is because we noticed the other HA pair don’t have their network adapter connected and is not connected.

Should both HA pairs have their network adapter be checked for “Connect at power On” so they can connect at power on?

Thanks!

Hi, @Fallout1984

I would begin by making sure that on both machines of the cluster all the network interfaces that *should* be up are indeed up.

If that's the case, you have part of your answer: interfaces that are currently down may safely be configured on VMware with "Connect At Power On" disabled.

If you notice some interface that should be up, but is not, it would follow the opposite logic: "Connect At Power On" should be enabled for those.

You can determine the relation between the VM network interface and the F5 interface by checking the MAC address on F5 with "ifconfig", and comparing to the MAC you see on VMware.

Thanks! Here's what I got back from F5 Support, to add to this...

- According to our VMware ESXi: F5 BIG-IP Virtual Edition Setup, all needed network adapters should be configured for “Connect at power On”, as showed in the images included in the setup Guide.

You can consult the entire setup guide here: https://clouddocs.f5.com/cloud/public/v1/vmware/vmware_setup.html
