Worst performing web application....

Guys,

What is the worst performing web application out there? I am wondering if it is a particular "off the shelf" app or a custom app that you built internally to your organization. Maybe we can make a contest based on the funniest answer or worst performing app posted.

While Joe is a wizard that has done wonders with our configuration, DNN is probably the worst performing off-the-shelf app I've seen (short of CRM, which has its own gremlins). In the hands of people unfamiliar with it, problems can be astounding. A company in one of my hobbies has been struggling with their upgrade to DNN for months and cannot get it to perform.

Overall, we had a web app at a place that I worked that accessed 21 different databases on five different DBM platforms. In the end we had to redesign it to consolidate the relevant data in one DB and then run the web app off of that. It cut down on the "real time" nature of the application, but since a response that is five minutes behind is better than no response at all, we thought it was a good trade off.

    Don.
  • I have been finiding that the worst performing apps have been ones that have been directly ported from Client - Server or legacy mainframe apps to web apps. Typically, these are web apps that have been around a long time and will stay with us for a while. The problem is that nobody wants to spend the time or money to upgrade those bad apps and often, nobody knows how. It is better to fix the app "on the wire" than try to find the original developers to re-write or update the app.

I don't want to name names of apps that are some of the biggest offenders. Does anyone else want to dish the dirt?.... oh, and their strategies for fixing the app?
