WMI and F5isapi.dll

Getting many errors (on multiple servers) using the f5ispi.dll on windows server 2003 relating to w3wp.exe.

See attachment for error detail. End result is that iis can crash after enough of these errors occur. Have tried ALL versions of the dll. NONE work.Does this dll need to be re-written or is there a config problem? Thanks, Ken

IIS Worker Process encountered a problem and needed to close

    Hi Ken,

If you don't get a response here, I'd suggest opening a case with F5 Support as that is the official way to report possible product defects.

  • Aaron,

I tried opening a case (Case Number C574715). Here was the response:

"...the .dll isn't officially supported because doesn't run directly on our hardware and operating system so. I don't have any other details on the subject."

Doesn't sound like opening a case will help. Thanks, Ken

Considering the f5isapi.dll is an agent which F5 created and provides on the Overview page of the admin GUI, I have a hard time understanding that position. Who did they suggest should troubleshoot the issue? Or what did they suggest you do about the problem?

You might ask them for unofficial suggestions even if they don't officially support it.

    Hey Ken,

Have you taken a look at the following solution?

    https://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/solutions/public/4000/400/sol4454.html

The only thing that might be wrong is step 10 - make sure that box is UN-checked. Otherwise anonymous users can query the DLL - and that could be bad.

  • The anonymous account probably needs administrator access. Give that a shot.

Yeah, maybe that isn't so safe.

The user configured (on the BIG-IP) to query the F5Isapi.dll does need to have the ability to see the WMI interface. So that user might need special access.
