Jul 07, 2015A root certificate is an unsigned or a self-signed public key certificate that identifies the Root Certificate Authority (CA) & part of a public key infrastructure scheme. When you open https request to any browser(Client to server), Server return X.509 standard certificate to your browser & browser sent copy of certificate to CA vendor for verification. If it ok, then encryption will happened(Chain of Trust). For more information please google it.
