Unable to install management pack on windows 2008

I am trying to install the management pack on Windows 2008. It errors out with the following error:

 

 

<05-01-2009 10:36:03> FATALERROR: Problem stopping or starting services: System.Exception: F5MonitoringService could not be started ---> System.InvalidOperationException: Cannot start service F5MonitoringService on computer 'SJ1SCOM01'. ---> System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion

I am running the install as administrator. I also tried to run the executable from within the command prompt being run as administrator.

 

 

Any ideas?

    Hey Glen,

     

    Sorry to hear about the setup troubles. In order to get an idea of what's going on, I'd like to get some information from you.

     

    First off, what does your configuration for Operations Manager look like? Are you trying to install to a single RMS or do you have a distributed solution with multiple management servers?

     

     

     

    Also, it would be helpful to have more information about the system you are trying to install on to. Click here and follow the steps on the page for "Running the SystemInformation.ps1 Diagnostic Script".

     

     

    Once you have this information, just attach it to a reply and we'll get you all fixed up. You may also retry installation (unless you already have and this happens every time).

    Figured it out fight after I posted this. I forgot to add the F5 service account user as a local administrator.

     

     

    However I'm having another problem which may or may not be related to the installation. When I try to Discover F5 Devices from SCOM, I get the following error:

     

     

    Application: c:\program files\F5 Networks\ManagementPack\f5mpgui.exe

     

    Parameters: -DiscoverDevices

     

     

    Error message: The system cannot find the file specified.

     

     

    I have checked and the file does exist in the location specified

    If you are having an issue launching it from SCOM, you might try from powershell or even just the cmd prompt. If you navigate to C:\Program Files\F5 Networks\Management Pack\ and run f5mpgui.exe -DD you should be able to launch the Discover Wizard.

     

     

    If this also does not work, can you please attach the trace.log file inside C:\Program Files\F5 Networks\Management Pack\ to a reply and we can go from there.

     

     

    One last question, does the Application: path above not have a space between Management and Pack?

    Hi,

     

     

    Same problem here.

     

    I send as en attachements the logs generated by the option /debuglogging.

     

     

    1 RMS on w2k8 server std, SQL 2005 sp4 on the same server.

     

    F5 user account in local admins --> by consequence SQL server dba

     

    my account is a domain admin account

    I noticed from the setup.log file that you are currently trying to install version 1.4.0.765. Since that time, there have been improvements and bugs fixed in our installation software, including support for installation on localized copies of Windows. I would highly recommend upgrading to the latest version: Click here.

    Hi Dave,

     

     

     

    What a shame I am mistaken between the version I downloaded.

     

     

    By the way what is the Pro-enabled version, I don't now if I have to install the pro-enabled or the "traditional" version.

    Hi JB,

     

    Actually, the PRO-enabled management pack is an addon/override pack that enables integration with Microsoft Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) through the use of PRO-Tips. Because it is an addon/override pack, you must install install the "traditional" version of our Management Pack suite anyways. Hope this clarifies that.
