Management port has gone down

The mgmt port of my active unit has gone down.

It's not pingable. I can connect to the cli and GUI via the self-ip so I can see that the unit is still functioning normally other than this.

ethtool suggests it's up:

Link detected: yes

Pair of HA 1600's running 10.1.

The problem arose when I was trying to get a replacement unit up to the latest config after a hardware failure, but config loads were failing. Our support contractors suggested renaming the standby unit the same as the active unit and loading it's config file. This turned out to be a poor idea anyway, as the license immediately revoked and the box crashed. At that point our contract ran out and they refused to help any more. I had to reboot, reactivate the license, run basic network setup and then the config loaded to get that unit working. I'm guessing that while I was following those instructions there was an IP conflict with the active box and it's port fell over.

Tonight I need to bring the newly built box back up, get it's config synched from the active unit, then failover so that I can address the bad mngmt port on the current active unit. Without bringing down all of our websites.

Any suggestions on how to diagnose problems with the mngmt port or get it working once the unit is in standby mode without rebooting?

We now have support from F5 direct, but I raised a case a couple of hours ago and haven't hear anything back.

  • Hi,

can you please post the output of "b interface mgmt show all"?

Do you see anything if you run tcpdump? cli: tcpdump -ni eth0

Maybe your mgmt interface is in the wrong vlan at the switch and that's the reason why you can't connect.

  • Hi, thanks for your replies. When I brought the other unit back online the GUI responded on the mgmnt port; presumably the heartbeat 'woke it up' in some way. I still couldn't ssh to it, so rebooted while I had the change window and when it came back it was fully functioning.

    Thanks again.
