GTM - Metric Timers
I don't have access to source code, so I can't tell you for sure, but writing the metrics to file once an hour by default doesn't invalidate the other metrics, it's just taking a moment-in-time snapshot of what's present in the system so they don't all have to be looked up for every decision.
There was a very simple answer from what looks to be an archived article:
https://support.f5.com/csp/article/K11678
Now, compare that "definition/description" in the article
"You can change the frequency at which the BIG-IP system writes path and persistence information to the ldns.gz file. "
to the current one:
"Specifies the interval (in seconds) at which the system dumps path
and other metrics data. Valid values are 0 through 604800. The
default value is 3600; 0 (zero) turns this feature off."
When I see "dumps path and other metric data", to me that sounds like DELETES, REMOVES, CLEARS, etc.. but its more like dumping as in a core dump where you are writing data locally. All that had to be added to the "dumps path and other metrics" was "to local file or remote destination" and that would have been 20 times more clear.

good find, and good point. I'll mention this to the docs owner.
