Does remote access on mssql have to be enabled for monitoring to work?

I have been using a third party application for monitoring of my mssql databases availability. The issue i am having is that in order for it to work i must enable remote access in order for the application to do its work. I would like to know if this is also needed with f5 mssql monitor.
