NimbostratusDefault Route for NTP,SNMP, Syslog, Sflow
Hi Everyone,
I need to know the following if I configure NTP, SNMP, Syslog, Sflow, remote authentication etc then by default the BIGIP unit tries to reach those IP via MGMT interface or TMM interfaces? how can I find which interface is used by F5 BIGIP to reach those IP addresses. What commands shall I use to see the flow of traffic and identify the route being used.

Graham_33693Use "ip route show" to verify the egress interface for your management traffic. HMS routes will be displayed with a metric of 9.

Outbound administrative connections can be used by either the management or tmm port. (Depending on the routing table)

NTP, SNMP, Syslog, Sflow, remote authentication will always use the management default route unless a TMM interface has layer 2 connectivity to the IPs of those services, or you have a more specific route defined in TMM. Personally, I would recommend having the appropriate routes/firewall rules in place for the management interface to handle all of these management functions rather than TMM. If TMM interafces are down for some reason(License issue possibly) these functions won't work.

This means starting with 11.4.0 only Loadbalancer self IPs and Loadbalancer routes determine the source and path of the traffic for sflow. Management Interface cannot be used.
