Cookie insert method show persistence records
Hello, i'd like to know whether the Big-ip stores persistence records for persistence profiles with the Cookie Insert method?
I've noticed that when using the cookie insert method on one of my VIPs that the tmsh show persist-records does not display any corresponding records - should this be the case or does the big-ip use the encoded value in the inserted cookie sent back to it to determine which pool member to forward traffic to?
thanks!

mhuss3y,
Cookie persistence records aren't stored on the F5, rather on the client itself. You're right in what you say that the F5 receives the client cookie and can then determine which pool member it is to be persisted to.
Hope this helps, N

An interesting side note, here's a solution article the describes the persistence cookie encoding method:

thanks Nathan and Kevin for your responses. another method i'm looking at is the use of Cookie hashing and am wondering where i can find details on what hashing algorithm it uses? this is to help validate the persistence records.
