Configuration Error / parseFavsSettings error

hi

I recently started using a MacBook, and obtained the BIG-IP client to access the VPN from the Mac.

However, I am regularly getting problems during connection with the connection failing due to 'Configuration error', reported in the log file as a 'parseFavsSettings', as follows:

2011-11-02, 9:11:21:000, 172, 172, edge, 1, parseFavsSettings, Favorites settings cannot be parsed

2011-11-02, 9:11:21:000, 172, 172, edge, 2, Session Controller, Configuration Error, -400

This might happen 6-10 times before I finally connect successfully. Sometimes it works without any issues.

I have no idea what causes the problem, or why it suddenly resolves itself. It is driving me crazy :-( Sometimes it can take 10-15mins to get a connection.

Anyone else seen this? Anyone any idea how to fix it/mitigate the problem?

My version of the client is:

BIG-IP Edge Client: 7000.2011.0620.1

MacBook is running 10.6.8, 64 bit, Intel Core i7

thanks

  • I've never seen this one but how many appliances are in the back end? Is it just one?
  • What I have noticed is that if I shut down the F5 client altogether, and wait 5 minutes or longer, then it seems to work the next time.
  • hi

The problem seems localised to only some Macs in my organisation. I have heard rumours that F5 have a new client that addresses this issue (maybe others) - but haven't seen the new client yet.

For me, i find (I think) that if I explicitly click 'Disconnect' on the UI when it is wanting a token card input and then reconnect, this seems to reduce the likelihood of it happening, but I am not sure if that is just wishful thinking on my part ...

There doesn't seem to be anything else that indicates a reason for the problem. My hunch it is some environmental thing, maybe triggering some race condition that (for example) locks a resource or something like that at the wrong time, causing an exception that is not handled.

  • I am seeing the same issue with BIG-IP Edge Client 7000.2011.0826.1 on Mac OS X 10.7.3. I could try multiple times, always getting the same error. After I while I found out that quitting the application and restarting it usually solves the problem.
  • Just have enabled extended logging in hope it will reveal some more information regarding this issue, but doesn't look like this is the case:

Any possibility to dump these favorites settings for further analysis?
