BigIQ inquiry

Hi All, I have bigiq and we need the to manage a lot of F5, i have management VLAN, do i need to create selfip of BigIQ and connect it to management vlan? or the management VLAN will do?

Actually, according to the BIG-IQ documentation:

 

"Each managed device must be configured with a communication route from its self IP address or management IP address to a BIG-IQ system self IP addresses. Otherwise, discovery will fail.”

 

However, it does also point out that “F5 recommends that you use a BIG-IP self IP address for discovery.”

 

Therefore it would seem to me that the recommended/preferred route of management of F5 devices by BIG-IQ is over the "traffic" interfaces, and not over the Management network.

I believe this recommendation has changed. From https://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/products/big-iq-device/manuals/product/bigiq-device-management-4-5-0.html it states "The preferred address for discovering a BIG-IP device is its management IP address." This is the latest version of BIG-IQ
