Big-IP VE LTM V14 to V16 then to V17 upgrade licensing question
Hello,
Does anyone know if a v14 license is still valid if I upgrade to v16 and then to v17? I know that I will need to reactivate because of the date on the v14 license but that's about all I know.
Any help is most welcoming.
You should only have to do the re-license which essentially does a service check update. The following link has the minimum service check date for each version.

John_Van_Zant Do you know what the version of your license is, this article can help you determine what software version you can run on your current licenses.

software version eligibility is tighten to to expiry date of support service.
for example if software version ... is released on march 1, 2024,
then you can only install that software if your support service was active on that date.you can check the support service status of your hardware in

So apparently, the original licenses were for v13. I did a grep Exclusive_version /config/bigip.license and received:
Exclusive_version : 11.6.*
Exclusive_version : 12.*.*
Exclusive_version : 13.*.*
Exclusive_version : 14.*.*
Exclusive_version : 15.*.*
Exclusive_version : 16.*.*
Exclusive_version : 5.*.*
Exclusive_version : 6.*.*
Exclusive_version : 7.*.*
Exclusive_version : 8..I was able to upgrade to 16 but when I went to 17 it said license not valid. Does this mean I need to purchase new licenses?

no need for new license.
just renew the annual support & maintenance service.

Yes, you need to buy a new license. Your perpetual license is limited to above versions.
