Backup and Restore from virtual ltm to physical

Hi All

I have a little side project I need to complete and I would like to see what the best way or process is to achieve this.

I have a physical HA pair I need to clean up, by this I mean rename nodes/pool/vs/profiles etc. the issues is over the years we have had many admins make vs and pools etc. and named them all crazy names with no standards and not to mention so many servers etc. that don't exists and what not. (we don't have that many servers in there so its not a huge tasks but there is so much that needs to be cleared up that fresh is probably the best option)

Now I have a fresh install of a virtual LTM and I was thinking of creating everything fresh in there with right naming etc.

Can I then export that into the physical box. I know I need to edit the interfaces and all. The reason I want to do this is we need to move one of the HA offsite and will need to break the pair so now would be the best time.

Or can I export the .config edit then upload.

Any ideas on how this is best done?

Cheers R

  • I've only done this between physical devices, but it was a fresh install.

    Brief version:

I did the base config (interfaces, vlans, HA config etc), then I transferred the bigip.conf files (including /config/partitions), attempt to load the config and then solve each error they throw at you one by one.

You might have some issues with certificates but you could move those as well. It does not take that much time actually. Hope that helps! :)
