active -active setup without using configuration utility

I am trying to setup active - active LTM setup without using the setup config utility that comes up when we start to build a bigip. I am not using the standard vlans external and internal as show in online F5 solutions. Is there a good guide to setting active - active setup from scratch using the actual vlans we have in a production network? How to setup VIPs in this scenario?
