A/A mode on VE Edition(v11.4.1)

hi,

I have two VE Edition machines configured in HA mode, both displayed as active(in sync). A virtual server (10.128.10.20) created to load balance HTTPS traffic, and associated with 2nd traffic group (traffic-‐group-‐2).But i discovered only box is processing client request after i launched https://10.128.10.20 from client. Is this normal behavior?

My understanding is if HA pair works in AA mode, client request will be processed evenly, while in A/S mode, only active box processing requests.

  • That's a fairly common misconception. An IP address and port (listener) can only live in one place (barring anycast type stuff of course), so even in an active-active configuration, any given virtual server can only be active on one unit at a time. What makes it active-active is that both units can be servicing different requests (different VIPs in different traffic groups) simultaneously - unlike an active-standby pair in which only one device is active for all VIPs.
