SMTP GUI configuration is useless?

Hi

I have a question about smtp configuration in v.11.x

All I know is we must set mailhub in /etc/ssmtp/ssmtp.conf m right?

I can't send mail if i'm not config ssmtp.conf

and what about GUI > System > Configuration > Device > SMTP

so what does GUI does? Is it useful?

can you have some example ?

so what does GUI does? Is it useful?i do not have that setting in gui. i am running 11.2.1. what bigip version are you running?
  • I have that in v11.2.1 but can't find any documentation that suggests anything other than using the CLI to configure email. Image added.

Teepan, have you tried using the GUI and seeing if it updates the file?

    i'm running 11.2.1 it's in System > Configuration > Device > SMTP

ps. If i'm not mistaken , BIG-IP must enable AVR module too .

    it's not update ,

when i config in GUI and not config ssmtp.conf in same pattern > can't send mail

when i config in ssmtp.conf and not config GUI in same pattern > can send mail

when i config ssmtp.conf and config GUI in differently pattern > it send mail by using config in ssmtp.conf

  • I'd open a case with F5 Support on this. If your testing is accurate it looks like a bug.

    Thanks, Aaron
  • Update : I think SMTP in GUI is use for AVR module

cause if i'm not provisioning AVR modules , this mode will not appear.

and when i click Export in AVR modules , it's have option to use SMTP server that I config in GUI.

question is, Is it useful for AVR only?

If we want to send email to alert admin from alertd.conf or user_alert.conf , we must only rely config in ssmtp.conf.?
  • I can confirm I've got AVR provisioned so I'd agree, thanks again for updating everyone.
