CGNAT Statistics - Translations Failures

Hello devs! How's everybody doing?

I'm deploying a CGNAT solution (CGN module only, not AFM) and I came across some statistics about translation failures.

I looked all over the manuals and under the help on the GUI but could not find any information regarding this. Also looked under pretty much every system log and not a single message is logged about it.

The statistic I'm interested is this one:

Does anybody knows what it means? Should I be concerned?

Thanks! Rafael

  • Hello Devs!

I have found some other info to this issue.

When I run 'show ltm lsn-pool <pool-name> failure-cause' I get kind of an explanation...

    root@(bnudtccgn01)(cfg-sync In Sync)(Active)(/Common)(tmos)# show ltm lsn-pool pool_CGNAT_GPON-4711 failure-cause

    ---------------------------------------------------------
    Ltm::LSN Pool::Failures
    ---------------------------------------------------------
    Pool Cause Count
pool_CGNAT_GPON-4711 LSN pick took too long 291
pool_CGNAT_GPON-4711 Total failure cause count 291

I read somewhere (and I just can't fin the article) that whenever a new client is accepted and BIG-IP tryes to find a new PBA block to it, it will randomly try x number of times. After that it will log an error and this counter will increase by one. In my environment, this counter matches the translation failures (on the original screenshot).

The only problem is that I don't see any error message logged on /var/log/ltm.

I'm still looking for an explanation.

    Cheers, Rafael
