When responding to a post I used to be able to see the post I was reponding to.

Yeah, they function differently. If you reply to the particular post (button on the right) it'll show you that post as you're typing your reply.

 

 

The "Add Reply" button on the left doesn't do that, because it treats it as a response to the thread, not a particular post.
