What happens if I activate only ASM without provisioning LTM?
- Jul 10, 2025
LTM functionality is not disabled by setting LTM provisioning to None. It just reduces the memory allocated to LTM-specific processes, but the core traffic management and load balancing features remain available as long as the license includes LTM.

Hello ravan
ASM or AWAF have by themselves some LTM funcionalities
check here https://my.f5.com/manage/s/article/K14231234
But as you have LTM license I would suggest to provision it.
It will give you more funcionalities, especially in load balancing methods
As I understand, the LTM functionality is there even you have not provisioned the module. It is enough that the license is activated to have full LTM functionality.
The difference between licensed and provisioned is the reservation of memory for LTM.

Nacreous
You are right.
I just tried it and indeed I was able to use load balancing methods that are available only with LTM module.
Had never used LTM license without provision it so far.
Nice to learn new things.
Thanx Juergen_MangThere are though some tricky points
