I am a bit unsure about this, but is there a separate websocket configuration on the F5 we need to enable to permit websockets?

There are no specific websocket features or related configuration elements that I'm aware of.
I'd imagine you'd want to stick to using a Performance (Layer 4) virtual server as there's no need for any layer 7 functions I'd image.

Not sure what do you mean by this but I have no other features enabled on it.

I mean any profiles related to HTTP or any other 'application' related protocol or service.
