Vlan-tagging in Workstation/Player

Anyone know if it's possible to get the virtual networking environment within VMware workstation or player to handle vlan tags, and if so, how? I know this can be done in esx/esxi with virtual guest ...

Would i be right in saying VMWare would just pass as a dumb pipe. So if i have PFSense on the other side configured for dot1q, then that would work fine too?
