Jan 11, 2010Trouble with a Pool containing a VIP
We have an iRule which routes requests to one of three different pools based upon the virtual directory specified in the url. (i.e. http://mydomain.com/. The three pools point to different servers. Each set of servers serves up a different application. One of the pools actually points to another VIP on the same LTM. It is not working. We cannot figure out how to configure the VIP to route the requests to this pool. It does not respond. We are using the pool command to do the routing (i.e. pool $poolName). Is this a support configuration? Do we have to do anything special for a pool with a VIP?

Hi,
In 9.4 and higher, you can use the virtual command (Click here) in an iRule to send a request from one VIP to another. You cannot use a VIP as a pool member in any version.

I switched to the "virtual" command and it worked perfectly. Thank you!
