Are you looking to upgrade to the major version e.g. v15 / v16 or to stable version in v14 ?

It is always best practice to upgrade to point release version in your tree version which is hotfix. This latest point release version will have all the latest security patches and maximum stability. You can refer below guide to get more clarity on it.
