SMTP support with X-Forwarded-For in One-Armed Deployment

referencing to one of the KBs i read in DevCentral, there it was mentioned that X-Forwarded-for does support SMTP Traffic as well, in addition to HTTP. I just need to be sure on this. Can anyone please clear my doubts or give some more elaborations on this.

  • Not at all true. XFF is an HTTP header.

SMTP is a clear text protocol, so you can technically inject information into it like client source address, but the mechanisms don't natively exist in the BIG-IP to do this. You'd need to create an SMTP proxy iRule (and there are few on DevCentral).
