Provisioning APM with AWS lab license

I followed the BIG-IP VE Setup Guide for Amazon EC2 and was able to setup the 3 NIC topology and access the BIG-IP VE via SSH/HTTPS. After performing basic network setup, I went to provision APM and realised that my instance did not have sufficient disk space. APM requires 12GB of free space...

So I terminated my instance, and created a new instance, this time with 50GB of EBS instead of the standard 33GB. Went to provision the APM module and found that the extra space is not reflected. Only 2GB of free space is available!

I receive an error message similar to the below:

01071008:3: Provisioning failed with error 1 - 'Disk limit exceeded. 12228 MB are required to provision these modules, but only 2048 MB are available.'

I stumbled across SOL14843 which suggests that there is some space is reserved which can be released. When I checked, it did not look like any space had been reserved by the BIG-IP. So I am not sure where the space went.

Has anyone successfully provisioned the APM module in AWS using the lab license?

    Historic F5 Account

For the Trial phase of the F5 BIG-IP lab license, it is intended to be a BIG-IP LTM VE only. With that being said limitations have been placed on the VE to prevent other modules from being provisioned and configured.

If you would like to demo an APM VE, I would recommend contacting your F5 Account Manager to discuss a APM VE trial.

  • No wonder... I was hoping to get APM working in AWS to study for the professional certification exams. Looks like this might not be an option. Thanks willhight.
