Q: Which should I upgrade first, the guests or the hypervisor host?

 

A: If the host is not at an I/O bug mitigated code level (e.g. 11.2.1 HF3+, 11.3.0 HF1+, 11.4.0 and newer) then you should upgrade the host first. Ensure that the host upgrade finishes, boots completely, and the guests start without issues. If the host is at or above those code levels, then you can upgrade either the guest or the host first.
