multiple virtual IPs

Hi,

Is it possible to assign multiple virtual IPs to one BigIP pair (failover)? In other words, if there are 2 different groups of application servers behind the BigIP, can I give 2 external virtual IPs, each represents one group of application servers.

Your help will be very much appreciated.

    Hi,

    Sure, that's possible. You can re-use one or more pools for as many virtual servers as you want.

    What are you trying to accomplish? What's not working?

  • Thank you for the reply.

    I am trying to figure out whether BigIP can meet our requirement, not that I have bought one and something is not working.

    One scenario of the requirement is that:

    1) There are N pools of internal nodes, these N pools may have overlapped nodes;

    2) each pool represents a type of service;

    3) each pool corresponds to its own unique external virtual IP;

    3) external entities may access these N types of services by addressing to different virtual IPs.

    So the ability to assign multiple virtual IPs to BigIP is a must in our case. You basically says it's possible.

    I am wondering whether there is anybody already tried this....

    Regards,

    Hi Jane,

    This is the most basic load balancing functionality that BIG-IP offers. We use it in our test and production environments. Each of our customers do as well. Every other F5 user does also. Perhaps you could talk with an F5 salesperson to get more information on the functionality BIG-IP provides.
