  • Dear Mr. Jenkins,

I have attached next image. Please check and advice me.
My requirement is Two Web server with both services port 80 and 8080.
In this scenario, Do I need two virtual server with each pool , I mean 80 pools and 8080 pools.
If I create only one virtual server listen port * ( All ports ) and pool contains both 80 and 8080.
Which one is better ? what is the best practice?

  • The image didn't come through on your question. Can you edit it and remove the tabs at the beginning of lines (tabs cause code to be put into a code block, which prevents trying to add an image within it)

  • So to clarify...

    • The client can come into the same IP on 2 different ports (80 and 8080). Are these for different applications or the same application?
    • Are you asking about load balancing each of them with both of your backend servers?
    • Are the backend servers running two different sites (one on 80 and one on 8080)?
  • I already create load balancing for those Two Web Servers with port 80 . Now , Web Developer request me to open 8080 in F5. As I understand is they want to use 8080 for Mobile push. So, I think this is different application. What do you think about mobile push? Thanks and Regards,

  • In that case, I would recommend just creating 2 different virtual servers (one for each port: 80 & 8080). Then just use the corresponding pool for that virtual server (one pool using port 80 on backend and one pool for 8080). I think that would be the easiest thing for you.

The other option would be if the URL's are different, then you could use port 80 for both mobile and non-mobile and use an iRule to check the url and pick a pool based on that.
