Loadbalancing Horizon Access Gateways with Smartcard Authentication

Can or should APM be used when configuring load balancing for vmWare Horizon that is using smartcard authentication with Access Gateways? I'm a little confused as the deployment guide (https://www.f5.com/pdf/deployment-guides/vmware-horizon-view-dg.pdf) leads me to believe that only LTM (and not LTM/APM) should be used when Access Gateways are deployed.

I'm also confused by the statement "If your View Clients use smart card authentication, the clients must make HTTPS connections directly to View Connection Servers. SSL offloading is not supported with smart card authentication." Does this mean they will bypass the Access Gateways if gateways are deployed?
