Hi,
we find our current mod_jk loadbalancing of Apache->tomcat/jboss to be deficient in several areas, so I'm looking to scope out solving this with our BigIPs
I'd be interested to hear how others have done so - eg how do you solve the persistence handled in mod_jk with the jvmRoute?
I want to be able to detect app servers that get themselves into bad states (listening on the port - but not able to handle requests - something mod_jk seems oblivious to - maybe solved with a custom HTTP monitor on the BigIP?)
Also being able to take live app servers (tomcat port XYZ) out of service to do app releases without affecting live customers would be a big bonus!
Thanks,
Fletcher.

Hi Fletcher,
You can easily have the BIG-IP check the health of the nodes using custom HTTP monitors which make a specific request and look for specific content in the response. You can also disable nodes for maintenance and drain off connections in multiple ways. None of this requires iRules.
If you want detailed product info before on BIG-IP before you make a purchase, you can either contact sales (via f5.com) or review the configuration/solution guides on AskF5.com.
