Linux paging/swap space

To try & alert for a problem we're seeing, I want to monitor the memory & swap space usage on the Linux portion. I can get the memory total & memory used from iControl via the System stats, but there's not enough information in those two values.

The memoryTotal seems to be the total physical memory in the box (4GB or 2GB in ours), and memoryUsed seems to correspond to the amount of physical memory used by the Linux portion of the system.

But I can't find parameters that indicate the amount of memory available to the Linux portion, nor the amount of swap space allocated by the Linux portion.

Are those stats available anywhere? (Or if not, are the stats from SNMP accurate & supported? I don't believe they are for things like vlan network traffic, but haven't tried for memory yet, because all my stuff is currently in iControl now).
  • I can't answer your post, but I did want to add to it. I am very much interested in the same capability. I am 'guessing' that this has to be done via SNMP. I had a perl script in place for version 4.5 to monitor BigIP metrics via SNMP and this worked fairly well (after spending quite a bit of time trying to get this to work). I'd like to do the same thing in version 9. However, it would really helpful if there were some examples of how to do this, along with how your requirement might be met (if SNMP is the way to do this).

I have been searching the internet for some tidbits of information that anyone might have posted about gathering metrics from Version 9. This requirement seems to be a very common one, and it would be really helpful to have a really good example.
