Link Object Usage

Hi,

I am studying for the GTM exam and I must admit I am still a bit confused with the link object and its particular usage. I understand it is supposed to be able to provide some sort of per upstream link load balancing, but is this possible if external links to the ISP's do not terminate on a subnet to which the F5 is connected (i.e there is a layer 3 device in between the F5's and the ISP routers)?

My configuration is a single link to a multi-layer switch using tagging for internal/external VLANS and obviously an SVI on the switch acting as the default gateway for each VLAN. The switch is then physically connected to ISP ROUTER 1 and 2 with layer 3 ports.

I don't see how the GTM can provide any sort of link level load balancing in this particular setup, would I be right in assuming this?

Could somebody give me a real world example of how they are using these link-objects?

Thanks for the help.
