Lab BIG-IP Setup (VMWare 12 & BIG-IP v13)

Hi - Veteran network engineer, new to BIG-IP, looking for troubleshooting suggestions.

This is my first lab attempt set up, just a simple install with three back end web servers. I've downloaded and setup a virtual instance of BIG-IP (version 13), I have it running on VMWare Workstation 12. I ran thru the whole initial config, and I have a 90-day license running. I can manage the box from my workstation - it's separate from the hosting box (the BIG-IP external interface is bridged to the hosting box's NIC, both my workstation and the hosting box are on the same segment) I have three virtual back-end web servers, which I can ping from the BIG-IP, and I have confirmed with curl that they're serving up their simple html pages. I've set up the associations so that they should be served up by an external IP, and the network map tells me that everything is good to go.

I can ping the virtual address from the external side, but when I attempt to type in the same IP in my browser, it times out, I never see any of the html running on the back end servers. Just as a sanity-check, the url/IP times out on the hosting box (Win 7) as well.

Anyone have any ideas ?

Thanks,

Bill

  • Do the web servers have route back to the workstation through the bigip? On bigip, in the virtual server config, enable "Source Address Translation: automap". You can also examine the bigip virtual server and pool stats: Statistics>Module Statistics>Local Traffic. Do the pool stats show bits in/out?
