Jun 30, 2006How to switch from layer 7 to layer 4?
We would like to use http header (which requires layer 7) to decide which server to connect to, then use layer 4 for the connection so that we get the benefit of performance and lower mirroring overhead.
Does anyone know how that can be done?
Many thanks in advance!

Thanks for your repsonse, Colin.
The issue is that we cannot pick layer 4 for the virtual server because we need to do the http header inspection. And when it is not at layer 4, there appears to be a lot more overhead if mirroring to the secondary F5 box is enabled. It is that overhead that we are concerned about. - Colin_Walker_12Historic F5 AccountAhh, so you're talking about the load balancing profile settings. Gotcha.
Well, unfortunately as you've pointed out above, you do need to enable the appropriate layer 7 profile if you're going to be doing that HTTP inspection. I'm not aware of a way around this.
Perhaps there are some tricks out there to minimize mirroring overhead. I'd poke around the forums and search for some pertinant posts. I'll take a look too, but I don't remember anything like this off the top of my head.
