GTM showing Generic Host type Server as UP when it is actually DOWN
Hi, We have a GTM->LTM setup whereby :-
On the GTM :- - I've configured a Server as Generic Host, assigning it the VIP address of the Virtual Server on the LTM I want the traffic passed to - assigned that same VIP address to the Virtual Server tab within that Server.
So I have a Generic Host Server created with address x.x.x.x and if you click on that server, click on the VS tab, you see an entry with the same IP.
What I am seeing is that when the LTM (which is running that VIP address) is marking that VIP as being DOWN, this is not being reflected on the GTM. The Generic Host Server is still showing GREEN. I seem to be using the correct Health Monitor as when I change the monitor to something completely different, it does change to RED.
Anyone got any ideas as to what might be causing this?
Thanks.
Alan.

If the monitor you have assigned is a PING then the LTM will still respond as it owns that virtual address even when the virtual server is down.

The monitor I'm using is TCP on port 8181, so not PING.

Any reason not to use a BigIP monitor of your virtual server from GTM? - AlanStrange_168

Actually, no...no reason at all :-) I just thought that I'd have to do a TCP monitor, but perhaps not. I'll give that try. Thanks. - AlanStrange_168

That seems to have done the trick. Now showing as DOWN. Thanks for your help on this one. Cheers.

What version are you running? there are several instances that might be causing this:
SOL15251: The BIG-IP GTM system may mark down BIG-IP LTM 10.2.x virtual servers
SOL14374: The BIG-IP GTM system may incorrectly mark BIG-IP LTM virtual servers down when using BIG-IP health monitors
SOL14900: The BIG-IP GTM system marks the virtual servers as down after a BIG-IP LTM system downgrade
etc...I would probably go ahead and open a ticket with support to see what they have to say about this.

OK - thanks for the info guys. Support case is probably the way forward.
Cheers.
