F5 LTM Management - Alerting tool?

Hi All, couple of quick questions. I'm interested to learn what others are using to manage F5 LTM alerts? For example, if a monitor were to detect a failed pool member, it alerts on the GUI, but what tools do you use to then get an email, SMS, etc?

Also, is there anyway to figure out why a certain pool member was taken offline? I checked the Local Traffic Log, but it appears to only go back a short period of time.

Basically looking for a better way to proactively monitor my F5 LTM environment.

  • Most people manage alerts with SNMP trap destinations and remote syslog, and then use features in those tools to send cut tickets, send emails, etc.) since those tools are generally better suited and already used for alerting for other devices/services/applications throughout an environment

  • If you aren't dumping to a remote syslog server you can get a little more log history by looking at /var/log/ltm..gz. These will go back a bit further than what you see in the GUI.
